EUROBATS has set up a working group (so-called Intersessional Working Group, IWG) to deal with underground bat roosts (caves, mines, cellars, etc.) (IWG Conservation of Key Underground sites). The aim of this working group is currently to collect information on evidence-based bat conservation measures (best practices) in these places, which can be either direct (grids, gates, fences, etc.) or indirect (warning signs, surveillance cameras, etc.). We would also like to know about cases that have proven to be unsuccessful or detrimental to bats for various reasons. You are asked to share your knowledge about such bat protection measures. Alternatively, you can forward this request to your bat expert colleagues who know such examples.

To provide data, we offer three options:

  1. You can fill out an online questionnaire on the EUROBATS platform (you must be a registered user) (link)
  2. fill out an online questionnaire on Google Forms (link)
  3. fill out a Word document (download) and send it to the e-mail address of the secretariat

If you would like to submit several examples, please simply fill out the questionnaire / Word document several times, for each example individually.

By default, the samples include the following data provider information: name, last name, affiliation, country. However, if you wish, you can also provide the examples anonymously and choose not to have your personal data appear on the public page.

The collected data is made available online on the EUROBATS website in the form of a searchable, keyword-based public collection of examples.

Thank you for your contribution!
